How we cut onboarding time from nine days to one
By Ana Ferreira, Head of Product · July 2026 · 8 minute read

When we measured it honestly, a new Skyline customer took nine days to send their first campaign. Nine days of setup screens, sample data and a checklist nobody finished. This is the story of how we got that number to one day, and what it did to retention.
The uncomfortable part first: nothing in those nine days was broken. Every screen worked. The product was simply asking new customers to make forty decisions before showing them any value.
Measure the first win, not the signup
We stopped tracking activation as account created and started tracking it as first campaign sent. That one change reordered the whole roadmap. Import your contacts moved from step seven to step one, because nobody sends a campaign to an empty list.
Then we cut. Domain setup became optional. Brand colors became a one-click import from your existing site. The forty decisions became six.
What changed in the numbers
Median time to first campaign fell from nine days to 26 hours. Week-four retention rose eleven points, and support tickets about getting started dropped by half.
The lesson travels: your onboarding is not the tour, it is the shortest path to the first thing your customer came for. Cut everything that is not on that path, and give the rest a settings page.
